Gold Committee Case: Police Become Mercenary Police, State Assists in Corruption, Chief Justice

Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa remarked in the 70 tola gold committee case that the police seems to have become a mercenary police and the state supports corruption and smuggling.


A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faiz Isa in the hearing of the case related to non-provision of gold when the gold committee came out.


During the hearing, the court expressed indignation at the prosecution over the non-standard investigation and said that the committee was formed by the arrested accused and the investigation was conducted with the family members.


The additional prosecutor told the court that gold was not paid when the 10 gram gold committee came out, on which the court inquired how much gold the arrested goldsmith had to give through the committee? The plaintiff said that the 70 tola gold coming out of the committee was not given.


The Chief Justice of Pakistan remarked that no income tax was paid on gold worth one and a half crores, where does this gold come from? What is its legal status? The state supports corruption and smuggling.


Justice Qazi Faiz Isa said that the real accused in this case should be the police. There should be respect, the royal system of police and Patwari should be abolished.


The Supreme Court granted bail to the accused arrested in the gold committee and ordered the accused to deposit a bond of Rs 2 lakh.
