The record for the highest number of wickets on the first day of a Test in 122 years

23 wickets fell on the first day of the Cape Town Test between India and South Africa, the first time in 122 years that so many wickets have fallen on the first day of a Test.


On the first day of the Cape Town Test, South Africa were all out for 55, then India's innings was reduced to 153 runs. After that, South Africa lost 3 players for 62 in the second innings.


Thus, a total of 23 wickets fell on the first day of the match, which is the record of the highest number of wickets falling on the first day of the Test in the last 122 years.



Earlier in 1902, 25 wickets fell on the first day of the match between England and Australia, while in 1890, 22 wickets fell on the first day of the match between Australia and England.


If we look at the overall figures, this is the fourth highest number of wickets on any day of the match.


In 1888, 27 wickets fell on the second day of the England Australia match, 24 wickets fell on the second day in the Oval Test in 1896, 24 wickets fell on the second day of the India-Afghanistan Chennai Test in 2018, while in Cape Town in 2011 South Africa and Australia Test. 23 wickets fell on the second day.
