ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Energy Minister Muhammad Ali says that he is working on reducing the electricity tariff and will complete the work on the tariff by the next month.


A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Power was held under the chairmanship of Senator Azam Nazir Tarar, in which caretaker Energy Minister Muhammad Ali told the committee that there is no point in talking about past mistakes, in the past agreements were made on dollars and high profits and now we have to Past agreements should not be renegotiated.


He said that there are problems for the industry on the current electricity rates, the electricity rates for industry in Pakistan are up to 16 cents while in other countries these rates are up to 9 cents.


The caretaker energy minister said that they are working on reducing the electricity tariff, they will complete the work on the electricity tariff by the next month, there is a capacity payment of up to 60% in the electricity rates, they will fix the electricity tariff structure and also The tax structure in the rates is also to be fixed.


He further said that people from the private sector will be brought in the discos, electricity consumption in the country has to be increased for which the electricity transmission system has to be improved.


Apart from this, the chairman committee directed the committee to satisfy the contract of transmission line from Dasu hydropower project.
