Changing yourself is very difficult, but one habit played a major role in changing Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.

In fact, this habit took him out of the confines of computers and software to philanthropy on an international level.

Bill Gates, 68, recently said that 'from the age of 18 to 40 I was very obsessed with my work and Microsoft was everything to me'.

"I'm lucky that other people now control Microsoft since it has allowed me to read and learn about global health challenges.," he stated.

Bill Gates, one of the richest people in the world, loves to study and this habit helped him change his career.

In 1997, Bill Gates and his then-wife Melinda Gates read an article that stated that millions of children worldwide die each year from diseases that are easily treatable.

When he stepped down as Microsoft's chief executive in 2000, he had the opportunity to further study and decided to found the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation by researching the global medical crisis.

He made this institution his focus and his habit of study helped him analyze medical problems and identify areas in which he could invest to help people.

During an interview in 2017, he said that reading instilled curiosity about the world and helped him advance his career and the Gates Foundation.

Since 2000, his organization has spent $53.8 billion to prevent medical problems such as AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.
