The Lahore High Court suspended the Election Commission's notification to conduct the February 8 general elections through bureaucracy.

Justice Ali Baqir Najafi gave a safe decision on the request of Tehreek-e-Insaaf. A one-member bench suspended the Election Commission's notification to conduct the general elections with the executive.

The court recommended the constitution of a larger bench on the petitions against holding the elections by the executive and Justice Ali Baqir Najafi sent the file to the Chief Justice.

The court has said in the decision that billions of rupees of the nation are used in conducting the election, if the major political parties refuse to accept the election results, all the money will be wasted.

It may be noted that the Election Commission of Pakistan had issued a notification for the appointment of District Returning Officers (DROs), Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) as Deputy Commissioners for elections.

The respective Deputy Commissioners of 40 out of 41 districts of Punjab were appointed DROs while Director General DG Khan Development Authority Muhammad Khalid Manzoor was appointed DRO Taunsa.
