Ahmad Bilal Mehboob, head of Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT), a non-governmental NGO working for the promotion of democracy in Pakistan, called the intra-party election of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) controversial.

On the orders of the Election Commission, PTI conducted intra-party elections to get the symbol of the bat in the elections, in which Imran Khan did not participate. In intra-party elections of PTI, Gauhar Khan was elected unopposed as chairman and Umar Ayub as central general secretary.

On the other hand, the founding leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Akbar S. Babar, has once again expressed his reservations about the party elections and has announced to challenge the PTI intra-party election.

Reacting to PTI's intra-party election, PILDAT chief Ahmad Bilal Mehboob said that political parties in Pakistan talk about free and fair elections, but there is no transparency in the intra-party election of political parties.

Ahmad Bilal Mehboob further said that I don't think that the intra-party elections were conducted in a good manner, holding elections in haste is not in favor of PTI, I think that PTI intra-party elections are controversial.

He said that voters list was not given in PTI intra-party election, Akbar S. Babar should have been given full opportunity to contest.
