Karachi: A fire broke out in a shopping mall on Rashid Minhas Road, 9 people died and dozens of shops were burnt

Karachi: A fire broke out in a shopping center located on Rashid Minhas Road, as a result of which 9 people have been confirmed dead so far.


According to Jinnah Hospital officials, 7 dead have been shifted to Jinnah Hospital, while one civilian and one have been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.


According to the fire brigade officials, the fire that broke out at 6 am spread from the sixth floor to the fourth floor of the building, due to which dozens of shops have been burnt while the electricity has been suspended in the multi-storied mall and neighboring buildings.


Rescue officials say that 42 people have been rescued from the building, but nine people have died as a result of suffocation, while the other 8 people have been shifted to the hospital in a state of unconsciousness. There are also reports of more people inside the building.


According to the fire brigade officials, 12 vehicles, 2 snorkels and around 50 firefighters were engaged in extinguishing the fire. While the fire has now been brought under control, the rescue operation is still going on.


Officials say that there was difficulty in extinguishing the fire due to the smoke filling the building. Apart from the fire brigade, other rescue agencies are also engaged in rescue operations, but the cause of the fire in the building has not yet been ascertained.
