Imran Khan's appeal accepted, August 29 notification of jail trial in cipher case invalidated

The Islamabad High Court declared the August 29 notification of the jail trial in the cipher case null and void.


A division bench of the Islamabad High Court had reserved the judgment after hearing which has now been released.


It also ruled against the appointment of a judge of the Official Secrets Act.


The court accepted the intra-court appeal of chairman PTI against the jail trial and declared the August 29 notification of the jail trial in the cipher case null and void.


The court said in the judgment that in exceptional circumstances the trial can be conducted in jail, as per the law the jail trial can be open or in camera.


In the decision, it was declared that after the approval of the cabinet on November 13, the jail trial notification will not be applicable.
