The date of general elections in Bangladesh has been announced.

According to the Election Commission of Bangladesh, the 12th parliamentary elections in the country will be held on January 7, 2024.

Meanwhile, the opposition party Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has been protesting against the ruling party for 48 hours in the capital Dhaka.

The Bangladeshi opposition is demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Hasina Wajid's ruling Awami League party, while opposition leaders are either in jail or in exile.

According to the BNP spokesperson, they have already said that they will boycott the elections if Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina does not resign and transfer power to a neutral caretaker government.

On the other hand, the Chief Election Commissioner said that he has urged the parties to negotiate to resolve the political crisis.
