After England's star all-rounder Ben Stokes, now batsman Joe Root has also withdrawn from the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Earlier, IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings had informed on social media that Ben Stokes has withdrawn from IPL 2024 to manage his fitness and workload.

Following the World Cup in India, Ben Stokes announced he will have knee surgery, but he later rescheduled.

During the 2023 IPL season, Ben Stokes was bought by Chennai Super Kings for the most expensive bid of INR 16.25 crore, but he could only play two matches due to a knee injury.

Now IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals has told X that Joe Root will not be seen in action in the 2024 edition of the event.

On X (previously Twitter), the Royals said, "Joe Root has decided to withdraw from IPL 2024. The dressing room will miss you."

Joe Root told the franchisees to withdraw a day before the deadline ahead of the December 19 auction.

Rajasthan Royals bought Joe Root in 2023 for INR 1 crore (about US$121,000 at the time).
