World Cup: South Africa beat Sri Lanka



New Delhi: In the fourth match of the World Cup, South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 102 runs.


In the match played in New Delhi, the Sri Lankan team scored 326 runs in 44.5 overs in pursuit of 429 runs given by South Africa.


Even half-centuries from Kaushal Mendes, Asalanka and captain Dasan Shanaka could not save Sri Lanka from defeat.


Kaushal Mendes played a blistering innings of 76 runs off 42 balls, Charith Asalanka scored 79 runs and Dasan Shanaka scored 68 runs.


Nissanka returned to the pavilion without scoring any runs, Kaushal Perera lost the wicket for just 7 runs, Dhanan Jaya de Silva was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj for 11 runs.


For South Africa, Keshav Maharaj, Coetzee and Marco Jensen took two wickets each.


South Africa scored 428 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted overs and had given Sri Lanka a target of 429 runs to win.


South Africa have scored 400 runs for the third time in the World Cup, with Aiden Markram scoring the fastest century of the World Cup in 49 balls.


Quinton de Kock scored 100, van der Dusen scored 108 and Aiden Markram scored 106 off 54 balls.


For the first time in the history of the World Cup, three centuries have been scored in one innings.


For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madhushanka took two wickets, Rajitha and Pathirana got one wicket each.


In the fourth match of the World Cup, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to field against South Africa.


On the other hand, Afghanistan's batting line failed miserably in the third match of the ODI World Cup in India. The Afghan players had given Bangladesh a target of 157 runs to win.
