New deadline set for August 2024 to start 5G service in Pakistan

Regarding the launch of 5G service in Pakistan, the Ministry of IT has prepared a business plan for launching 5G service. A new deadline for launching 5G service has been set by August 2024.



Telecom operators have rejected the demand to provide 5G spectrum free of cost, it has been decided to facilitate the operators to reduce the cost of infrastructure. It has been decided to get the services of international consultant for 5G service soon.


IT Ministry also wrote a letter to PTA for international consultant. A summary has been sent to the Prime Minister for the formation of an inter-ministerial advisory committee.


According to the business plan, the consultant will make the spectrum auction policy in consultation with the advisory committee. It has been decided to put forward the model of Bangladesh and other countries for the spectrum auction.


According to the business plan, spectrum will not be given to any single operator without competition as in the past, before the auction of 600 MHz spectrum, reforms will be made in the telecom sector.



Cases pending in the courts regarding spectrum will be settled, telecom operators will be given concessions to participate in auctions, spectrum sharing will also be allowed to telecom operators, facilities will be provided for LC opening and fiber optic laying.
