9 people died and more than 40 were injured when the roof of a church collapsed in Mexico.


According to foreign media, the roof of a church collapsed during a Sunday Mass in northern Mexico, killing at least 9 people and injuring around 50.


Officials said that rescue teams were busy searching for survivors and injured from the wreckage till late night.


Tamaulipas state police said about 100 people were inside the church at the time of the incident, and three children were among the dead.


A statement issued by the Mexican Council of Bishops said, "We pray for those killed and injured."


In a message posted on social media, the bishop's dowsays said that the necessary work is being done to evacuate the people buried under the rubble. Condolences to those who were there.


The Dowsays also released a list of about 50 people who were taken to the hospital, including a four-month-old baby, three five-years-old and two nine-years-old.
