Ireland also raised its voice in favor of Palestinians, against Israeli atrocities
Even after decades of Israeli atrocities, why do we never hear that Palestinians also have the right to defend themselves: Spokesperson for Defense and Foreign AffairsIreland's Foreign and Defense Affairs Spokesman Matt Carthy raised the question of the Palestinians' right to defense while raising his voice in favor of the oppressed people of Gaza.
Speaking to the Irish Parliament, Matt Carthy said that after decades of Israeli atrocities, why do we never hear that Palestinians also have the right to defend themselves?
He said that along with the Palestinians, we should also demand that there be an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and that the Palestinians get their rights.
In his address, he said Israel has been violating international law not just since October 7, but for decades, practically every day since Israel occupied Palestinian land.
Matt Carthy said that Israel has besieged Palestinian territories contrary to international law, Israel has built constructions contrary to international law, and increased illegal settlements.
Continuing his speech, he said that against international law, Israel imposed an apartheid system that restricted the movement of Palestinians and denied the basic rights of Palestinians against international law.
He said that against international law, Israel carried out frequent and systematic attacks and killed Palestinian citizens, but why have we never heard that Palestinians also have the right to defend themselves?
He raised the question that until now any Western leader said the words that Palestine has the right to defend itself?
Matt Carthy said that the truth is that the Palestinian people want the international community to tell Israel to end the siege of Palestine, stop apartheid, stop annexation, stop genocide.
Ireland's foreign and defense spokesman said: "Our demand must also be clear and immediate for a complete ceasefire and decisive international intervention, leading through dialogue to a lasting and peaceful settlement, which will ultimately lead to a free and sovereign Palestine."
