India: 13 people killed, more than 50 injured in passenger train collision

In the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, two passenger trains collided, as a result of which 13 people were killed and more than 50 were injured.


Several coaches were derailled when a passenger train between Almanda and Kantakappalli railway stations crashed between Visakhapatnam Palsa and Visakhapatnam Regada, perhaps as a consequence of human error, according to Indian Railway officials.


Officials say that rescue operations are ongoing at the site of the accident, investigations have been started to find out the causes of the incident.


From the state capital of Amravati, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy issued directives for rapid relief activities.
