Avenfield, Al-Azizia Reference: Nawaz Sharif filed applications for reinstatement of appeals against sentence
PML-N leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has filed petitions in the Islamabad High Court to revive the appeals against the conviction in the Avenfield and Al-
Azizia references.
On behalf of Nawaz Sharif, attorney Amjad Pervaiz has submitted applications to revive appeals.
The petitions have asked for the appeals to be reopened and decided following the consideration of the merits arguments.
It should be remembered that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been convicted in Avenfield and Al-Azizia reference and is disqualified from public office for 10 years.
On October 21, Nawaz Sharif consulted his lawyers in the lounge of Islamabad Airport on his return home after 4 years and signed the petitions for reinstatement of appeals.
Earlier, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court dismissed Nawaz Sharif's appeals for non-compliance after he went abroad for treatment.
The court decided to honorably acquit Nawaz Sharif's co-accused Maryam Nawaz and Captain Retired Safdar from the NAB reference after accepting their pleas in the Avenfield reference. The court also pronounced their punishment to be void.. While dismissing them, the judgment had written that if the authorities catch them or if they surrender, they can file a request for reinstatement of the appeals.
The court has also stopped NAB from arresting Nawaz Sharif till October 24 to surrender him.
